About Cyprus
Cyprus is the 3rd largest Island in the Mediterranean Sea, it’s 149 miles long and 62 miles wide.
Cyprus has the warmest climate (and warmest winters) in the Mediterranean part of the European Union.
Cyprus has a population of 1,214,185 in addition to this, the Republic of Cyprus is home to 110,200 foreign permanent residents.
The country has two official languages: Greek and Turkish. Armenian, Cypriot Maronite Arabic and Romani are also recognized as minority languages. In addition to these languages – according to the Eurobarometer by European Commission – 76% of the population of Cyprus speak English, 12% speak French, and 5% speak German.
The currency of the Republic used to be the Cyprus pound - CY£. As from 1st January 2008 the Cyprus pound has been replaced by the Euro as the legal tender money of Cyprus at the irrevocable fixed exchange rate € 1 = CY£ 0,585274.
Cyprus drives on the left just like the U.K.
Since Brexit, all permanent residence of Cyprus must hold a Cypriot license, unless you are from one of the member states then you can drive on that license. People who live here permanently have until July 2021 to exchange their license.
If you are visiting Cyprus on holiday you may still drive with an International Driving Permit (IDP) together with a current valid domestic driving licence.
